Aquaponic Principals – Maximising Crop Productivity

Fiery Fish Farm is the growing passion of Margie and Len Hall and their son Ben, located in Benarkin North, within Queensland’s South Burnett Region.

Although Fiery Fish Farm spans just 5 acres, it boasts impressive productivity due to their innovative Aquaponics systems cultivating a variety of crops including chillies, tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and a diverse range of seasonal produce. Surplus from their harvest that doesn’t make it into their delicious range of products is made available to the local community.

The Fiery Fish Farm Story

Len and Margie dedicated numerous years to the Electrical Engineering and Automation Industry, with a focus on specialisation in Food & Beverage and Water Treatment sectors. As they became attuned to the global surge in Aquaponics interest, they recognised a promising niche for Control and Monitoring Systems. Remarkably, they observed a gap in the market as no one else was pursuing this avenue at the time. In response, they initiated the development of an economically viable system and proceeded to construct a Pilot Plant to facilitate further refinement and showcase their innovative work.

When the COVID-19 pandemic reached Australia, Len and Margie recognised that the moment had arrived to explore alternative approaches to food production.

This led them to initiate their own Aquaponic Farm in a regional area, aiming to demonstrate that Aquaponics is a feasible and sustainable method. Their goal was to showcase that this practice could yield nutritious and delicious produce while consuming significantly less water than conventional cultivation methods.
